Maximalist Boho Nails
Expressive. Artistic. Unapologetically bold.
If there's one nail trend that's completely captivating Pinterest and Instagram right now, it's maximalist baroque nails.
Think cat-eye gel polish that shifts like real gemstones. Gold chrome accents sculpted into molten frames. Encapsulated marble textures. Pearls, caviar beads, and 3D florals that turn your nails into wearable art.
After years of the "clean girl" minimalist manicure, we're entering a new era – one where nails become the canvas for your personal expression.
Rich. Romantic. Totally magnetic.
When beautifully executed, these looks are absolutely mesmerising – whimsical, fantasist, and completely Couture worthy.
I've gathered my favourite designs and variations below. Some are viral (like the mint green cat-eye nails), others are pure artistic inspiration. All of them celebrate creativity, craftsmanship, and that boho-luxe energy we love.
Let me show you what maximalist nails are all about – and how to bring this trend into your own style.

What Are Maximalist Nails?
Enter the world of full-on artistic, abstract luxe nails with romantic baroque inspiration.
This style finds its roots in the 17th-century Baroque era – mimicking vintage jewellery frames, palace architecture, and the opulent detailing of that period. Also called "Regencycore" or "Royal-core" nails, this trend is a major shift away from minimalism toward a maximalist, "Craft as Luxury" aesthetic.
The look unfolds in many variations – from 3D romantic gold florals to molten metal organic abstracts and expressive antique interpretations.
Key Characteristics:
3D Sculpted Details
Gold chrome accents or floral elements hand-built using 3D builder gel to create raised, frame-like textures and "molten" metallic filigree.
Gilded Accents
The use of gold chrome or gold leaf to mimic vintage jewellery frames or palace architecture – creating an organic gold setting appearance.
Jewel-Toned Bases
Deep emerald green is the signature colour for baroque nails, often paired with a chrome or cat-eye finish to give it the depth of a real gemstone. The designs use textured backgrounds like pink marble, yellow marble, and glittering cat-eye gel to mimic the look of precious stones set in gold.
Encapsulated Textures
Complex designs – marble, gems, multi-coloured abstract "stone" effects, tortoise and faded liquid textures – all look as though they are "framed" by gold.
Encapsulated Gems & Pearls
3D rhinestones or "emeralds" are often placed in the centre of gold frames to make the nail look like a piece of wearable royalty. In the more contemporary maxi nails trend, gold caviar beads and pearls are encapsulated in the texture. Several looks incorporate 3D gold stars and pearl accents, which are hallmarks of the "Regencycore" influence.
Nude or Light Colour Bases
Negative space is used to highlight the jewels, increase contrast, and balance the design.

Romantic Baroque: Gold Florals, Marble Texture, Pearls & Jewels
This is the softer, more elegant side of the trend.
Nude base with elegant gold floral design and pearls – signature of the Regency baroque – and soft jewel textures encapsulated in gold frames.
It's elegant, intriguing, and yet not overwhelming. Like a painting circled with gold jewels.

A variation on a pink base with the same gold florals and pearls, with jewel textures encapsulated in molten gold. A romantic look with refined gem jewels.

Marble Texture with Cat-Eye Gel
Elegant milky marble texture ornamented with gold organic frames and cat-eye magnetic gel polish in jewel-tone sage greens to bring the dimension and transparency of real jewels onto your nails.
This look is modern but also fantasist – like an elfish look straight out of The Lord of the Rings.
What is cat-eye gel polish?
Cat-eye gel contains tiny magnetic metal particles.
When a magnet is held over the wet polish before curing, the particles shift and create a glowing, multidimensional line – like light moving inside a gemstone.
In baroque nails, this becomes the "jewel" centre framed in molten gold.

Emerald Jewels and Gold Floral Design
This style is richer – mixing marble texture, gold molten frames, floral design, gems, and pearls.

Encapsulated Marble Texture in Organic Molten Gold and Pearls
The gold framing is achieved by drawing the texture design in 3D gel and colouring over with gold chrome powder. Some gel paints exist in bronze gold, but to make it really shiny like pictured, the best is gold chrome powder.
Most nail artists design the gold frame first to perfectly cover the 3D gel in chrome powder, and fill in the texture after – but I think it depends on the texture of the gel you want to encapsulate. Personally, marble texture tends to be runny, so getting this part first is easier.

Cat-Eye Sage Green & Jewel Design Encapsulated by Molten Gold Frame
Love the celestial little stars encapsulated – it really pulls out the design like a jewel pendant or a talisman on your nails.

Cat-Eye Blue Encapsulated in Molten Gold Frame with Gold Celestial Design
A colour variation with 3D transparent waves to highlight even further the cat-eye light effect. The gold designs are achieved with a nail brush and serious dexterity – I manage the small lines, but I personally struggle with circular movements.

Cat-Eye Orange Encapsulated in Molten Gold Frame & French Tips Style
Another colour variation – simpler to accomplish, but with a gorgeous wow effect. The cat-eye reflect really glows with the gold chrome frame 3D, and bordered on the tip in the French tips style, it makes the nail longer and beautifully refined.
A gorgeous boho nails look to wear every day for the nostalgic '70s groovies, and easy to do yourself at home for the creative nail artists.

The Maximalist Nails: The Modern Artistry of Baroque Nails
Where the romantic baroque style expands to a more expressive and artistic trend.
Organic gold frames, advanced textures in marble, cat-eye, croc print, oversized 3D florals, waves, gold rings, X-shape modern French nails, with gold caviar beads, pearls, and gems...
So many elements combined together to create a maxi artistic look.
Like this look with white croc print in blooming gel, gold caviar beads, pearls, and X French tip.
Maximalist nails take baroque to a more artistic level, exploring combinations of nail styles, textures, and jewels. More expressive and adapted to personal style.

3D Floral and Ring Molten Gold Elements
This romantic variation is more modern with large 3D florals, gold rings focused on jewel appearance & texture.

Abstract Organic Maximalism with 3D Waves on Stilettos
A more contemporary take often called Organic Baroque, showing thicker gold frames with a more rough natural aspect. Mixing shapes, like the gold mermaid waves and French tips framing, and designed on long stiletto nails to increase the nail art canvas and give that expressive look.

Encapsulated blue cat-eye texture in organic molten gold frame with encrusted colourful gemstones & pearls on nude base stiletto nails.
Tip: If you don't have cat-eye gel, use a sheer or glitter gel and cover it with transparent 3D builder gel to give it a highlight – that will do the trick.

Maxi molten gold rings and organic design over colourful marbles on stiletto nails. I have seen this look everywhere on IG and Pinterest.
Very modern and edgy – this look rocks!

Now this is the perfect example of maximalist baroque nails.
Very Romeo and Juliet, this look is called "Antique Gallery" or "Talisman" nails because each finger looks like a different vintage artefact.
Asymmetrical style with individual design, combining dots couture canvas of mini gem settings in caviar beads, chrome texture bordered in beads and pearls, antique Christian symbols in gold and silver, and gold floral elements on tips.

A creative style perfect for boho nails, where spiritual or celestial symbols ornate texture and colourful canvas in a galaxy of gold caviar beads and pearls.
Why This Trend Feels So Inspiring
This maximalist nail trend seems to inspire everyone.
Inviting them to combine their favourite nail designs with energetic creativity.
Simple gel replaced with encrusted cat-eye gel.
Pearl nude nails elevated with gold frames and marble texture.
Celestial nails with oversized gold rings and 3D waves.
Gold floral-inspired design now multidimensional with maxi 3D florals.
French tips revisited in X shape with gold caviar beads and pearls.
There are so many variations of techniques, colours, jewels, and decorative elements – you just have to pick your favourites and compose your own look.
No more simple. Nails become now the magical canvas of your personal expression.
